Gmail IMAP Settings

  • Step 1:
    First, enable the IMAP on your Gmail account to access the IMAP email server settings.
  • Step 2:
    To enable IMAP in Gmail, open your web browser, and access your email server page.
  • Step 3:
    Enter your Gmail address and password to log in to your Gmail account.
  • Step 4:
    Click on the Settings icon displayed on the top-right corner.
  • Step 5:
    Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab on the displayed window and select Enable IMAP for all mail in the IMAP Access column.
  • Step 6:
    Click Save changes and log out from your Gmail account.
  • Step 7:
    Now, IMAP is enabled for your Gmail account, and you need to configure the IMAP settings on your email client.
  • Step 8:
    The default Gmail IMAP settings are given below:
    • The incoming mail(IMAP) server is imap.gmail.com.
    • The Secure Sockets Layer(SSL) is the standard security technology used for Gmail.
    • The Port number is 993 by default.
    • The outgoing mail(SMTP) server is smtp.gmail.com. SMTP also requires SSL and TLS(if available).
    • The authentication port for SSL is 465 and TLS is 587.
  • Step 9:
    After registering the necessary details, select the Test Account Settings on your mail client to check the server connection settings.
